DO YOU NEED A VISA?
Whether you will need a visa to enter the UK will depend on your country of origin and personal details. If you are coming to the UK as an investor you will probably need a visa (unless you are a national from the European Economic Area). However, you may be exempt if you can claim British Citizenship or another connection with the UK.

There are various forms of visa in the UK, including: a visa to set up in business in the UK, as a partnership, sole trader or as a UK registered company, a visitor visa, where you intend to visit the UK for no more than six months and have enough money to support yourself for the duration of your stay, or a student visa, where you must show that you have been accepted on a course of study at an educational establishment that is on the UK's Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills Register of Education and Training Providers.

UKvisas is the government organisation that handles entry clearance for foreign nationals wishing to enter the UK. You can carry out a basic preliminary check on your individual visa requirements by filling out the online visa enquiry form at:

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk

Run jointly by the Foreign &Commonwealth Office and the Home Office, UKvisas operates through British embassies, high commissions and consulates (“overseas missions”).

Contact details for all UK overseas missions can be found at: www.fco.gov.uk

ENTRY PROCEDURES

The decision to allow a visitor to enter the UK rests with the entry clearance officer issuing the visa abroad. When the visitor arrives at the port of entry an immigration officer will simply check that the visa is valid and that the passport containing it is genuine.
