Beach Holidays England UK
The popular belief that you have to head Down Under or to Europe to experience the surf and sand instead of taking a beach holiday in England is fast changing. People are now experiencing England's coastline like never before and contrary to earlier belief, England has some of the top beaches in the world. A beach holiday can be exciting enough to make you go back again and again. If the southern coast is known as the English Riviera, there are several others east of London as well.
Great Yarmouth, Scarborough and Blackpool
If you want to head to the nearest beach from London for a holiday, the town of Great Yarmouth will invite you with open arms. With 24 kms of beautiful beaches, you can escape the crowds thronging the south coast. With a beach holiday, tuck in visits to historic landmarks and museums like the South Quay, Elizabethan House and Nelson's column. Head towards east Midlands to land on the 'laughing coast' and Fantasy Island, close to the picture perfect Skegness town.
Further north is Scarborough, known for its famous fairs, is a destination favored by tourists since 17th century. Breathtaking and beautiful cliffs as well as fantastic bargains at shops can turn your beach holiday something to write home about. Close to Sunderland and the border with Scotland, the area has been popularized by famous movies in the past. Blackpool, off Liverpool, has always been a favorite haunt in England for soaking up the sun.
Dorset and Cornwall
If you are looking for the best of rural England in all its flavors, Dorset is the place where you should be going to for a beach holiday. Having one of the greatest coastlines in England, Dorset is endowed with cliffs, beaches and sleepy villages that have stood the test of time. If you have passion for wildlife and experiencing scenery at its natural best, head for Brownsea Island, known for red squirrels and golden sands along Poole Bay.
Head south to experience the English Riviera while dropping in towns like Paignton, Brixham and Torquay. Much of the life is still Victorian in feel and temperament and Torquay is where Agatha Christie was born. Caveman settlements in Kent's Cavern and Model Village offer wildlife attractions as well when you go for your beach holiday.
Dinghy sailing and other water sports like kite surfing can make your beach holiday memorable as well. Cornwall to the west has marine wildlife reserves and beaches good enough to match overseas beach holiday destinations.
