Here are a few rules:
Eat lightly There may be a dozen courses A little of everything
Your host may serve tastiest food directly to your plate Don't reciprocate
In the North soup may be served at the end, in the South at the beginning
No dessert but fresh fruit might be served
Rice is at the end as a filler Don't empty your plate!
Host will sit opposite the door, honoured guest to his right
Use chopsticks not fingers to remove food from mouth
Speeches and toasts will happen Remember Ganbei! (dry glasses)
Evening ends when host stands up, usually soon after last course
Important to reciprocate with a return banquet if time
