A
word about English food -
English
food has traditionally been based on beef, lamb, pork, chicken
and fish and generally served with potatoes and one other vegetable.
Over the years English have liked Indian and Chinese food so
much that Indian curries and Chinese noodles appear on any 'most
popular dish' surveys. I have never found 'Chicken Tikka Masala'
(once voted as nation's most favourite dish) in any Indian restaurant
in India during my extensive travel. You would find Indian and
Chinese takeaways virtually in all cities, towns and villages.
Besides these, fish & chips, potato & baked beans, sausages,
egg and bacon are popular brunches.
It
is currently (2003) estimated that there are between 3 and 4
million vegetarians in the UK, one of the highest percentages
in the western world. Fruits, vegetables and vegetarian food
is available readily in all the superstores.
