This breathtakingly beautiful village in Gloucestershire can be found in the Cotswold district about four miles down from Stow-on-the-wold.
If you are slightly wary of the village because of its name however it has no frightful meanings as Lower- slaughter simply comes from the old English name for a wet land 'slough' upon what it lies on.
The picturesque village has some of the prettiest cottages that have remained unspoilt for several years in the traditional Cotswold style. You will also come across a stream that runs through the village and crosses two smaller bridges which is a very pretty sight indeed. You will also discover the converted mill which was built in the nineteenth century with the old water wheel still in tact where crafts and arts are sold! You can also find a tea and gift shop located here where you can pick up pretty, unique things that cannot be found anywhere else!
Lower- slaughter has an old mill shop that you can visit during the day time. If you are a fan of nature then you are definitely heading for the right place as with all of the attractions that Lower- slaughter offers you such as Birdland - Park and Gardens, Cotswold Falconry Centre, Cotswold Farm Park and Cogges Manor Farm Museum. You will be amazed at the natural environment you are surrounded by and the wonderful variety of animals and wildlife.
This is a great adventure for both you and your family, especially if you have young children they will never be bored of the fantastic farms and nature parks that you take them to! You must visit the Cotswold Water Park & Keynes Country Park where there is so much that you can do! Just some of what is in store for you at this water park is: nature reserves, country parks, water sports, Thames Path, cycling, fishing, riding, caravanning and camping. Safe summer bathing, lakeside cafe, walks cycling, barbecues, children's play area, bike, boat, and surf bike hire.
Concerning travelling to Lower- slaughter, you will find that it is a central place and therefore will be very easy to get to. You can either travel by plane, train or ferry. You can fly in to London Heathrow or Gatwick airport which means you are 2 hours away by car. You can also get the Eurostar train from Amsterdam, Brussels or Paris links London's Waterloo International Station and the journey will only take 3 hours.
