The train journey from Venezia to Firenze Santa Maria Nouvella is 2 hours 45 mins. We reached Florence at half past seven and our hotel was 10 mins walking distance from the S.M.Nouvella train station. The hotel which was loacted near Piazza de Strozzi was not that great. But it was located really close to the famous sights.

We went for a stroll to Piazza della Republica. There were some street musicians. The next day, we covered Pisa in the morning, which I have written in the next section. We came back to Florence in the afternoon. All sights in Florence are within walking distance of the station and each other. The Piazza del Duomo is grand and very ornate from outside. But from the inside, it is quite plain.

Make way to the Uffizi Gallery where you will find a lot of masterpieces. Next to the Uffizi is the Palazzo Vecchio, the entrance to which is adorned by copies of Michelangelo's David and Donatello's Marzocco. There is also an open gallery containing sculptures like the Hercules and the Centaur, Rape of Polyxena etc.

The Fountain of Neptune is another beautiful sculpture in the same square next to Palazzo Vecchio.

The original David stands in the Galleria dell'Accademia. This is in the opposite direction to the Uffizi Gallery across Piazza del Duomo along Via Ricasoli. Since we had been to Italy during Christmas and we happened to be in Florence on the 25th, both the Uffizi and Galleria dell' Accademia were closed on account of a public holiday.

That completed Florence and we made our way to the station for the train to Rome. I will cover Pisa next after which there is going to be a long write-up on the fascinating sights of Rome.
