Wimbledon-Roger Federer History
Often referred to as the Fed Express, Roger Federer is one of the most popular and successful Swiss tennis players of our time. Federer is currently number two in the world and held the number one position for a record number of weeks.
Starting from the 2004 Wimbledon Championship till the Australian Open of 2010, Federer reached either the semi final level or above it in 23 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments.
He is the proud owner of 16 Grand Slam titles as well. The Wimbledon Roger Federer history is a long and exciting one. Wimbledon has brought Federer much recognition and fame right from his early years.
In any discussion on the history of Roger Federer at Wimbledon it is essential to point out that Federer is the winner of the most titles under the Wimbledon men's single category in consecutive years. He won five of these titles consecutively in the years 2003 to 2007. Federer's success story at the Wimbledon began in the year 2003 and after that there was no looking back for this legend.
2003
In the year 2003 Federer won his first Wimbledon title. He played the final match against Mark Philippoussis and defeated the man by a score of 7--6 (5), 6-2, 7--6 (3). This was the beginning of many more victories for Federer at the Wimbledon.
2004
Federer's success story only got stronger in 2004 when he successfully defended his title and defeated opponent Andy Roddick. The score card at the final match clearly echoed Federer's success with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-4.
2005
Once again the Wimbledon title was won by Federer and this time too Andy Roddick failed to snatch away the respected title from Federer who defeated his opponent by a score of 6-2, 7-6 (2), and 6-4.
2006
This time Federer had a new opponent in the form of Nadal. The two went on to become famous tennis rivals in the future and are a real treat to the eyes when they play against each other. However, Nadal failed to secure the prestigious title for himself and lost to Federer by a score of 6-0, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (2), 6-3. The score card clearly showed that Federer was clearly the unquestioned winner of the Wimbledon title!
2007
This year once again the two stalwarts competed against each other at the Wimbledon finals and Federer managed to defend his title against Nadal by a score of 7-6 (7), 4-6, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-2.
2008
This was the year when Nadal finally defeated Federer and claimed the winning title at the Wimbledon while Federer became runners up. The scorecard read 4-6, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (8), 7-9. This was the longest final match in the history of the Wimbledon!
2009
For those who believed that Federer no more had it in him to win the Wimbledon were proved wrong with Federer's victory against Andy Roddick in the 2009 Wimbledon finals. The score card read 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14.
This historic victory on the 5th of July, 2009, marked Federer's comeback and is a milestone in the Wimbledon Roger Federer history. It is Federer's sixth Wimbledon title in the singles' category and the fifteenth slam of his career. He also won the French title in 2009.
Federer won a total of 51 matches while he lost only 5 matches in the Wimbledon till date. He has an amazing winning percentage of 91.07% at the Wimbledon.
