Tennis Clubs in Wimbledon

Wimbledon, the venue for the most prestigious tennis championship in the world offers great opportunities to budding tennis players to get world class training in this sport. Wimbledon means a lot to tennis players all over the world, as the place hosts many tennis events and specially the World Championship which is also one the four grand slams events and the only grand slam event to be played on grass. The Lawn Tennis World Championship is jointly managed by The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and The Lawn Tennis Association.

Founded in 1868, The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is a private not-for-profit club. The club is situated on Church Road. The club has 19 grass courts which includes the Centre court and the No.1 court. The Aorangi Park consists of 22 grass courts and is used for practice before the championships. The club covers a sprawling area of about 42 acres. Except the Centre court and the No.1 court, all other courts are used by Club members and LTA sponsored players all year, but not on Championship days. The Centre court and the No.1 court are strictly used only for championships. Other than the World Championship, there are several championships that take place in the Club all throughout the year.

Apart from the main club, there are several sports clubs in Wimbledon which provide quality facilities for players and focus on training players to become professionals. One such club is The Wimbledon Club, which is a premier multi-sport club. It provides facilities for tennis, squash, men and women hockey and cricket. For tennis the club has 8 grass courts and 7 hard courts along with an indoor tennis practice facility. The club provides good coaches for all its sports to provide training to its members.

Another premier tennis club in Surrey is the Westside Lawn Tennis Club which is situated at a short distance from Wimbledon Village and Wimbledon Common. The Club has superb facilities for both competitive and leisure tennis players. The Club even has a variety of activities for adults as well as juniors by providing them with a comprehensive programme which includes team practices, social tennis and organised tennis groups. The Westside Lawn Tennis Club, as a LTA Performance Satellite Club runs an extensive junior development programme.

The Wilton Tennis Club situated south of Wimbledon town centre is also a wonderful and lively place for playing tennis. This Club also is suited for both competitive and leisure tennis players. Apart from their old courts, the Club has four new all seasons court. The Club provides good level of coaches for its members and also organises winter and summer tennis tournaments.

Wimbledon is very close to London and is very well connected by the London Underground and buses. It has its own station and the next closest station is of Southfields.
